Brake like the wind

Pleasant enough if not a little uninspiring. Turin Brakes return after a couple of years absence with a single that contains one new piece of material, what have they been doing all this time? The extra tracks on this EP, if you can call it that, are an edit, always a pointless addition and an instrumental version that's perfect for lifts in department stores. Musically it’s an intricate well produced acoustic ballad that is in places reminiscent of The Auteurs from a few back.

Nice changes in melody and a fairly strong chorus place it above a lot of the records around at the moment, but you sense that their grand vision for this record has fallen slightly short and so it never really amounts to the sum of its parts Saying that it’s a fairly encouraging sign for the no doubt impending long player, and hopefully they've amassed more than a few records to put on it.
