I promise you nothing...

Yo, Shortie. Sounds like something someone from the hardcore ghetto would say right? Nope, Shortie in this case are a "Young Sacramento based heartfelt rock act." I know, it made me cringe too.

They're so cliché emo it hurts me. I'm sorry, anyone who uses the term "taut rock edginess" to describe their music needs to have some sense slapped into them. Okay so their music isn't that bad, but it's boring on oh so many levels. We've all heard the "insert here" screams and mildly catchy choruses in Funeral For A Friend's music, Dashboard Confessional have played the whining card but at least Chris Carraba's lyrics mean something and both aforementioned bands do what they do much better than Shortie. They don't make my ears bleed or perk up, but if I were a fan of this genre now seemingly oozing blandness I'd deem it "okay". I'd leave it on the radio, I'd stay around and watch them support a better band of this genre. I wouldn't heckle them but I certainly wouldn't rave about them because there's nothing original here at all.

After the first 5 songs of trying so hard to find something that makes them original or worth recommending to even my most emo friends, I realised that I was waiting on a lost cause. If you like this kind of music go buy something on Victory records, go wear some black and scribble songs that have better lyrics and song names than 'change of heart' and 'every single word'. I bet you could. Sure Pogus, the singer of this band may be "wearing his heart on his sleeve" but honestly; a 12-year-old girl could write less sappy lyrics about her crush. There are 100000's of bands who dothis kind of music better- try Finch or Thursday instead for some more influential tunes.

Shortie provide polite and inoffensive emo so if your school is ever having... I don't know... an emo disco call these guys. I'm sure they'd love to see teenage angst, black t-shirts and Converses. Who knows, maybe it'll inspire them to write songs with better subject matter and some more depth.
