City of Ashes

City of Ashes give the sound that every generation of listeners need, the sound of teenage angst, bringing to mind the likes of Taking Back Sunday, the world needs more bands like this again to aide people in growing up.
Falling Star has a start that's reminiscent of a Jimmy Eat World song, a simple little bass line before the music can properly kick in. The vocals at the beginning have a very Placebo aura about them, in that it sounds a little bit femme fatale but that's never a bad thing. Music and vocals mesh well and even the lyrics are bearable to listen to even though it's a teenage angst band; by the time the song finishes I just slap it back on repeat because it's so damn catchy!

Never ever ever judge a book by its cover and never judge a CD by the first song because Beggars and Thieves is very different to its predecessor, starting with a rhythmic drum beat followed by intense screaming and quality guitar playing this song is totally on track and then at the perfect time the singing starts and cements this as a keeper of a song.

The Highest Point of Living is the ultimate emo song, acoustic guitar, depressing lyrics and high vocals. I can picture a depressed thirteen year old listening to it in their dark room as they post on all the social networking sites that everyone hates them and the world is a terrible place. But looking past my own judgemental views on this song it's actually quite a beautiful track that does inspire heart break but not in an 'I'm going to die without you' kind of way.

The next effort Hourglass is an odd song, is it possible to have a quiet song with screaming in? Apparently so because this song starts off quietly but with screaming as the tension builds up and up. The end result isn't very satisfying after all the suspension has been built but it still makes a damn good song.

'THIS IS A WAR' is a great way to start off any song in my opinion! Jumping right into it and giving it all they've got A Calm Like Lethargy is the last song on this awesome EP. A heavy upbeat song with plenty of screaming and singing with a catchy chorus, this is the perfect song to finish this EP.
