Emperor Chung - Emperor Chung

Derbyshire may not seem like the most rocking place in the world but that is where Emperor Chung hail from and they are hoping to make their musical mark with their self-titled debut album.

Emperor Chung is an interesting album which supposedly revolves around a mutant penguin; Chico Chung (who is addicted to steroids judging by the album cover).

Emperor Chung have been causing quite the stir on the music scene, especially following their performance at Download earlier this year, there is no doubt that they are hoping to live up to the hype with this eleven-track release.

Opening track I Though This Day instantly sets the scene for the rest of the album, it is punchy and well structured. Frontman's Martin Jackson's vocals lock you in from the word go; his voice is likeable and compelling. The track is eager for attention and the level of musicianship being heard definitely warrants that attention.

The Bloodline acts as the album's lead single, Jackson's voice has a strong Myles Kennedy tone on this track which is bound to give it instant appeal to Alter Bridge and Slash fans. To be honest, it is not a million miles away from sound of Alter Bridge's lighter material. I'm not convinced The Bloodline is the strongest track on Emperor Chung but it is probably a good starting point for new listeners.

Emperor Chung is a stellar debut effort, they are clearly a talented bunch and if 2013 is anything to go by, their success will continue to grow well into 2014.
