Kill Chaos - PromisesPromises

Northern rockers Kill Chaos are set to take on the UK with the release of their new album PromisesPromises.

PromisesPromises has been a year in the making and the album sounds very neat and polished. It is hardly original but it is very well performed and produced which says a lot for Kill Chaos who mixed, recorded and produced the album themselves.

Opening track Boy Done Good has a great chugging bassline, which will make your head nod throughout, but the vocal work of Darren Clewes leaves a lot to be desired. Sadly, it is not the strongest song on PromisesPromises and does not make for a great opening track.

Futures is the standout track for me, it has a strong classic rock feel which at some points is reminiscent of The Rolling Stones; it really shows off the band's musical and lyrical talent.

Got A New Drug is a fab little number, it is punchy from the offset and is not too dissimilar to some of Biffy Clyro's early work. No doubt this will be a highlight during the band's live show, and could be doubly powerful with the right lighting work.

PromisesPromises is a mixed bag; there are numerous songs which leave a lot to be desired, and there are other tracks which show a lot of... promise. It is not a bad effort and there are elements to the album that make it clear why ex-Reuben frontman Jamie Lenman invite them out to support him on his recent tour.

Kill Chaos have delivered a good debut effort, PromisesPromises is home to some strong tracks but also has areas for improvements where the band can really develop themselves as time goes on. It's well worth a listen and showcases a band who have real potential who could definitely go onto much bigger things with the correct direction and guidance.
