Insense - De:Evolution

Insense are from Oslo, Norway, and are somewhat of a hidden metal treasure. They have been going for 15 years, touring with the likes of In Flames, the Devin Townsend Project and Ghost, which is enough of a clue that they are something special.

On their new album De:Evolution, they combine the rush of edgy intense technical metal with impassioned vocals, and flashes of really beautiful melody. The album is a real grower, which you need to live with for a bit; and then don't be surprised if it's on your playlist daily. There are 14 tracks on the album, all played with passion and a burgeoning instrumental onslaught.

For a point of reference imagine the brutal technical attack of Meshuggah combined with the melodic sensibility of Devin Townsend, forged with Scandinavian gloom. Lack of Progress best epitomises this brilliant mix, and has the bonus of some really inspiring bass work from Ola Hana. Some Holy Thing further develops their sound, with a gothic feel, accompanied by an immersive spiralling guitar and melodic vocals.

To experience the really crushing aggressive side of their music, try the track Sick is the Will, guaranteed to get you head banging....and just love the mad song title! The album closer Part IV - Adoption has the most gorgeous guitar melodies, and is evidence,if it was needed, of just how creative and wide ranging the musical ambition of this band is.

It seems a shame that this band doesn't have a higher profile in the metal world. Help to change that, by getting hold of this great album!
