Cute, catchy acoustic pop...

Bird, aka London-based singer-songwriter Janie Price, has had a colourful musical career so far; a cellist in various youth orchestras since the age of six, drummer in a punk band and jazz vocalist on London's club circuit, but finally Price seems to have found her niche producing her own brand of sensitive and sophisticated pop. Her new single 'Slowly, Slowly' is the latest enticing snippet from her critically acclaimed album, 'The Insides'.

Bird has been compared to numerous female artists since her album release, from Bjork and Rickie Lee Jones, to Tori Amos and Nelly Furtado, while one reviewer went on to suggest she occupied similar ground to Dido. However, if the thought of another Dido fills you with terror, fear not; Bird is far from Dido's lacklustre monotony. The sophisticated production of 'Slowly, Slowly' combines cute, catchy melody with up-tempo beats mixed and edited by Hugh Padgham (responsible for working with The Police and Human League). Most captivating is perhaps the fusion of Price's sophisticated and majestic cello playing with the funky, independent attitude of her vocals, which here seem to have an echo of Natalie Imbruglia.

Overall, 'Slowly, Slowly' is a warm, pretty and intensely catchy piece of acoustic pop that will undoubtedly win Bird a place in the hearts of many. Having already stunned audiences in Europe with her live performances and touring with the likes of Aqualung and Rodrigo Y Gabriela, it seems that this is one bird that will be well worth watching.
