Dug up from the archives

I don't think you would've heard of Archive, they're big in France, but don't let that put you off, they're really good. This EP is pretty unique, it echos Oasis, Talk Talk and Portishead. It's a musical landscape that is these days shoved aside by the trends presented to us by the Indie Rock loving NME, it's underexposed and captivating. On 'Noise', the second I heard the vocals and the keyboards intertwine so beautifully, I knew the song would hold my ever so short attention span. The drums accentuate the dreamy sounds of the keyboards perfectly, it's one of the most complete sounding songs I've heard in a very long time.

'Pulse' is much more dancey and ambient, I don't like it as much as 'Noise' but the presence of keyboards and the versatile nature of the vocals create a wonderful raw enigmatic atmosphere within the song. From this atmosphere you just get the feeling that people of so many different musical backgrounds would appreciate this, from your father to espresso drinking black beret wearing fashionistas in Paris.

'Get Out' took me aback for a few moments, the vocals are much deeper and heavier at the beginning of the song, the sirens and acoustic guitar add to the eerie, yet intimate effect of the song. The guitar echos through the song almost hauntingly, even when the previously dominant keyboards and drums kick in; the upkeep of the steady eerie guitar parts drift through the song. It's so engaging; a song that sophisticates everywhere probably already have playing in their modern homes.

This is a thoroughly, I suppose, interesting piece, the band have many different facets, perhaps geared to a slightly older and more versatile and open audience. Not entirely radio friendly, as it is challenging to the ear, it makes you focus on just he music and nothing else. This EP creates a hypnotic atmosphere that only the versatile should give a chance.
