Harrisons

They seem to be putting something in the water in Yorkshire these days, that or the music scouts had a clear out in the boots of their company cars and found a Leeds and surrounding areas A to Z. Either way it certainly appears that the music scene in that county has been given a real kick up the arse in the past couple of years. There are several alternative acts hoping to cling on to the globe trotting coattails of the Kaiser Chiefs with the spotlight now pointing in their direction, yet at the same time bringing their own thing to the party.

In sound The Harrisons are more Bloc Party than a product of the House of Kaiser, but they share the same brand of high energy Indy rock with both of those bands. Both tracks on this single are catchy, air drums anthems in the making and something that I’m noticing a lot at the moment with immerging artists, the b-side is better. The lyrics of ‘Out Tonight’ some up a feeling of boredom, “I’m going out tonight, ‘cos the TV’s full of shite!” the main chorus line. The lead track ‘Wishing Well’ has a similar feel but the thing that edges it for me in favor of track two is the seventies classic rock style guitar intro.

Harrisons are another interesting new band that should be well worth a look if they come to a toilet venue near you, and one of a number of a wide range of artists coming out of Yorkshire at the moment. So if you’re an A&R man, sorry person to be politically correct, heading northwards out of London to find the next big thing, rest assured that there’s more to be discovered towards the top end of the M1. Even if you leave empty handed on the music front I can recommend a fine all day breakfast at the service station near Wakefield.
