Un-original but good

At last, a press release which doesn't hold a band up higher than divinity itself. In most cases the music can't live up to the ballyhoo and so you can't help being felt let down. This isn't the case for Scary Kids Scaring Kids as their debut single 'The Only Medicine' is really rather good. Hailing from Gilbert, Arizona, Scary Kids Scaring Kids are a six-piece rock band that don't initially knock you back with their music, but captivate you until the end. It is then that you nod to yourself and think, 'Hmm yeah, I'll listen to that again'.

Let's make it clear that Scary Kids Scaring Kids have a pretty dumb name, maybe it's because I am fed up of typing it, but it doesn't really make you think they are a 'Metal' band. There's nothing very original about 'The Only Medicine' either, it's very much bandwagon music containing the usual widdley riff and its harmony, screamed verse and melodic whiny chorus. Think Lost Prophets cross-dressing with Atreyu and you're probably in the right ballpark. Original or not, I can't deny this single, along with its other track 'What's Up Now', are good songs. There are warm keyboards adding depth to the music and the solo in 'The Only Medicine' was a nice surprise. The vocals dominate this recording being far too loud, maybe if the guitars and bass were higher in the mix then this single would make you take a step back. It's a good start from these 'Scary Kids' and I for one will be keeping tabs on their progress.
