Lambert's Kerosene Set Me Alight!

OK this review will raise quite a few eyebrows; someone must have taken a wrong turning. For a start Miranda Lambert is signed to SonyNashville, so not the norm for Roomthirteen. Like most British people my idea of country music is the stereotypical American male wearing dungarees, a cowboy hat, piece of straw in mouth, chewing tobacco, and playing the banjo or guitar. With the sort of accent that suggests a backward redneck that ought to be performing on The Dukes Of Hazzard.

So then I had my next lesson. There are many genres of what we Brits would call indie, there are many forms of Country, some which would cross here for folk, or very much laid-back indie music. Ok I have made a faux pas Miranda doesn't perform country she performs Texan Music, I could go on but besides confusing the whole readership I would be confusing myself in the process.

All I can say is do not be misguided by her age, her beauty, or the sort of blue eyes that can turn any man to jelly. Miranda Lambert is one hell of a singer/songwriter and I am very sure on listening to her album 'Kerosene' this is one kick ass start and will only get better as she continues to grow within the industry. Miranda is a real artist with talent and in no way just an entertainer brought to our attention for our titillation.

Overall this is not an album of country music, it is a great crossover album, with rock influenced songs such as 'Kerosene', where you see some real attitude within the lyrics; it's rough and pounding, a great opener on the album. Which is then followed by 'What About Georgia?', again another rock inspired tune with plenty of snare drums and layered guitars. Something that actually gets you going and these two songs as the openers to the album are a fantastic introduction to Lambert's music.

As you move through the album there are many songs that strike you, some about the maturity in the lyrics of the songs from one so young to the orchestration, in fact it is beyond what you expect from one so young. There are so many mixed emotions on this album it is great, whether it be 'Bring Me Down', 'Greyhound Bound For Nowhere' or 'I Can't Be Bothered'.

Miranda Lambert has a great future in front of her, this album as a debut is second to none! Miranda Lambert will not be a hidden gem for long, and her style, her voice and her music will not be loved in the USA but around the world. This is one album that breaks down the all the stereotypes you could attribute to it, and is a mighty fine introduction to Texan Music. This is Miranda Lambert with her Texan twang ready to conquer.
