One Chance? Thankfully Not.

Manchester band Omerta appear to be riding a wave of popularity with plaudits coming from BBC6 and XFM and this, their second release, hopes to build on this positive start.

If the lead track 'One Chance' were indeed their one chance then the outlook wouldn't be favourable. There is a good chorus that builds from the rest of the song but it has the impression of a small chink of sunshine breaking through a cloudy, dull day.

The rest of the song is one paced; the vocals come across as being drab and uninspired and its clear that the song wishes to be a Muse B-side. If Muse are your thing, then by all means, check this song out but otherwise, there is not a lot going on.

The b-side 'Synchronise Your Smile' is a lot more interesting. It's upbeat and has some life to it, the guitar picks nicely throughout the track and there is a hint of early Stone Roses when that band was still captivated by the music of The Byrds. As two songs go, the contrast between these tracks couldn't be bigger.

Omerta appear to have a few different styles available to them, which can only be a good thing for them as they start out. If they can only get someone to sort out their single releases, this may not be the last we have heard of them.
