Chicago Spooky Rock

Another band from Chicago rock city! Alkaline Trio are possibly one of the biggest punk bands to date from the Windy City. With an impressive back-catalogue of videos and albums, a mammoth UK tour scheduled for November this year and increasing interest from the media, it will be hard to find anyone who hasn't heard of the spook punkers.

To accompany them on their road to international stardom on the alt-rock scene, the band have released their third single 'Mercy Me' off their latest full-length 'Crimson' which was released earlier this year.

In comparison to their other material, 'Mercy Me' is a much more radio-friendly song in comparison to previous singles such as 'Goodbye Forever' and more recently piano-influenced 'Time to Waste.' Instead 'Mercy Me' has the cheekiness that made 'Stupid Kid' remotely charming but has the maturity and capacity to pull any listener into singing along.

Similarly to the album, 'Mercy Me' won't keep old fans happy as some may believe it isn't a good representation of the band and who they are. Of course this song isn't as satanically influenced as 'This Could Be Love' or even 'For Your Lungs Only.' Despite giving Bassist Dan Aldriano his first vocal section on a single the Alkaline Trio have released, it's in my opinion the weakest part of the song.

Although lyrically this song makes no sense at all (drug-influenced lyrics possibly?). It's certainly a song everyone could sing-a-long to at a party and is not as depressing as any of the Radiohead-esque indie shit that's on the radio at the moment so go buy it and make some of those indie kids happy by getting it in the top 40.
