Glum and gloomy, but we all know that's a good thing.

Taken from the soon to be released second album 'Dead Pool Rising' by goth group NFD, 'Light My Way' is a rather pleasant piece of gloomy rock, with clear melodic guitars and synths a plenty. Vocalist Bob White does that slighty raspy, gravel gargling, yet soft and sweet style that so many gothic rock bands utilise, but far better than most.

There are three tracks on offer here, which, since one is a different version of another, feels slightly stingey, even for a single. It's fortunate that both the radio edit and album version of the title track are included, as the full version is far, far better. It's only one minute or so longer, but is far better mixed, with prominant, slightly choral sounding synths, and pleasantly sparse and desolate instrumental bits in between the busier sections, creating a far more atmospheric and enjoyable listen than the (still enjoyable) slightly simplistic sounding radio edit.

The token extra track on here - 'Unearthed" - is a bit forgettable, really. It has a nice, understated intro, but then fails to pick up. It remains resoloutly mid-paced and unremarkable for much of it's five minutes, which is a shame as NFD have just proved that they're very capable of writing a good song. This single is certainly a worthwhile purchase, although it's mixed baggish nature makes me wonder whether the album will be, as well.
