Raising the Standards

Snow Patrol return with the first single from their eagerly awaited fourth album 'Eyes Open'. 'You're All I Have' is released on April 24th and is set to be another major success for Gary Lightbody and co. as it's already being hammered on the radio.

If you prefer Snow Patrol in their more rock frame of mind then this will be very pleasing to your ears. 'You're All I Have' is similar in feel to tracks like 'Spitting Games' and 'Chocolate', however it seems to be slightly heavier in terms of the guitar production than both those tracks. 'Chocolate' was one of my favourite singles of 2004 and this one is every bit as good. There is a noticeably heavier and more gritty sound to this track which suggests that they may be going for a more rock direction rather than indy sound with this forth-coming album and on this evidence they've definitely stepped up a gear and should be about to unleash another classic.

I've heard it be said before, and have noticed it in places here, that there are flashes of Del Amitri about the Snow Patrol sound. I realize some of you may not think this is the coolest comparison to make but there's no real hiding from it and personally I think that particular Scottish act had some decent tunes on their day.

Don't let that last statement put you off though as this is unquestionably a fantastic single and it's great to have new material from one of the best British acts of the current era.
