Beyond Reasonable Doubt - S/T

It's interesting to see how punk has developed over the years. With the Heresy re-releases we have in the modern context old school punk and now with this debut album from Beyond Reasonable Doubt we've got a great British example of how it's being done today.

Sitting alongside acts like Lagwagon and NOFX it has that fast paced though almost poppy sound. Gone is the old style aggression instead being replaced by a more radio friendly softness. It's a lot easier to get into and is certainly a lot easier on the ears, but it feels all too familiar to the current wave of emotional-eyeliner wearing rockers like My Chemical Romance. The boundaries of genre are no longer really applicable so to call this punk would be to do the genre a disservice but at the same time would also take something away from the band.

With this rock sound though it does mark them out as different especially compared to the major acts on labels such as Fat Wreck. This hint of different genres means that they will probably appeal to the widest range of people as chances are you are going to find something you like but fans of pop punk are going to lap this up and will probably catapult this band to super-stardom. It's not something which particularly moved me but there is a certain likeability factor to this band which I can appreciate.

Definitely a band to check out before they explode to unattainable heights.
