Matthew Herbert - Scale

Matthew Herbert has become one of the most influential people in experimental electronic music. The sampling wizards latest release is no different, "Scale" features 37 of the 273 objects used to make this album on the sleeve.

"Scale" is much more accessible than his previous work, obviously he is hoping to become more mainstream. The album features a woodwind section, a chamber orchestra, French horns and many of the big band players from Herbert's previous album "Goodbye Swing time". Man made and natural sounds have been used to create rhythms, which include a touch of jazz, disco and Latin. The other secret weapon Herbert uses on this album is the brilliant Dani Siciliano who sings on all but one song.

Opening track "Something Isn't Right" and the upcoming single "The Movers and Shakers" instantly stand out. This album has a really smooth vibe and production is slick.

This album is the perfect mix of playful, political, serious and sublime, it's well worth a listen and is different to a lot of the generic music that is out today. "Scale" truly is a beast of an album.
