French laid back jazz.

They may be renowned for their wine, cheese and football but not many French acts have made a name for themselves in the UK charts. Sure, Serge Gainsbourg is respected and admired and Vanessa Paradis briefly dallied with the Hit Parade but largely, the French have left the British record buying public untroubled.

Cocosuma, a trio from Paris are the latest to try and bridge this gap and their single 'Bam! Tululu!' is an intriguing one, and definitely has a Gallic influence on it. The feel of slow, smoky jazz clubs peppers the air and the track is certainly an acquired taste, which would do well to gain any airplay or recognition. The vocals are light and airy and glide over the light backing, which at times drops out leaving the vocals in an accapella state, which is no bad thing.

As a song it's okay; it's not groundbreaking or pushing any boundaries, it just kind of exists and it's hard to determine who actually buys records like this. It's all very well being good background music and 'Bam! Tululu!' certainly passes the time and will fill in any gaps in conversations but there isn't a lot about this track that demands attention or adulation.

Perhaps this reviewer is not in the mindset for lounge music and background tunes just yet but even allowing for that, there isn't much about this song that appeals. It's not a bad song, it just doesn't do that much.
