Saccharine and sickly pop from ex-Slowdive lot

So, Mojave Three were the result of Slowdive splitting in 1994 and that should tell you all you need to know. By the middle of 'Star in the Sky' the only word flashing is anodyne, and that really sums this single up. It's the fact that the songs have a tendency to slip into background music more often than not.
It's hard to deny that there's a sense of fun and light-heartedness but the saccharine quality often leaves a sickly feeling like too many sweets on a sunny day.

'Breaking the Ice' isn't too bad, a slice of Belle and Sebastian-style pop but 'Star in the Sky' is merely irritating and seems to last forever. As for 'Bright Lights', it could be interchangeable with 'Star in the Sky' although it's marginally better. There are no doubt those who will argue that this makes for lovely summery pop, but it seems Mojave Three could do better.
