Glaswegian Gems
The Dykeenies are Glasgow's hottest new indie pop property. "I've got a wealth of new ideas", sings Brian Henderson, just one of the three brothers that make up half of the band, and he's all too right.
Flush with handclap percussion and bright guitar riffs, The Dykeenies are right up there with their smart lyrics and catchy vocals. Bubbly, unpretentious art rock at its finest, 'New Ideas' simply brims with energy, the tune has simply been distilled into the most glitzy and vibrant format through great production.
'Will It Happen Tonight' opens with the same kind of Killers' indie riff that 'New Ideas' ended with, but it takes on a more subtle atmosphere of frustration with a punk dissatisfaction slipping in through the moody guitars and chorus cries. A complete delight to listen to, the double A-side is totally justified as it's completely impossible to choose the best of these two deserving tunes.
