The Common Redstarts Single Review

This tune is probably familiar to anyone with Sky Sports because it was used all through June on one of their advertising campaigns, and it is definitely perfect advertising music: a slice of melody driven mainstream pop with a rock edge and a repetitive chorus; sounding like Oasis but with all the edges softened.

'Save it for your Friends' is a summer song through and through, lightweight bouncy pop with a catchy melodic hook, it will undoubtedly be around all summer, spinning endlessly on radio stations everywhere all through the heat wave but probably not beyond that because it's not really infectious enough to stick in your head for any length of time. It has the feel of an old school pop track, like the Kinks, but with none of their panache, depth or bite because unfortunately the vocals aren't really strong enough to take the tune and turn it into something more interesting and unusual.
