It's no emergency but it's a poppy rock track.

With a name deriving from the French for secret love, young American rockers Paramore have an 'Emergency' on their hands with their latest single.

As songs go 'Emergency' is a simple enough rocky poppy song that wouldn't sound out of place coming from Avril Lavigne or Kelly Clarkson. Lead singer Hayley Williams certainly knows how to carry a tune and her melodic delivery plays a vital part in taking this song away from what could potentially be a harder, edgier track and placing it in a softer tone.

No doubt fans of the band will recoil in horror at the thought of their heroes being compared to these manufactured pop acts but let's face facts. Sprightly guitar riffs and chugging rhythms are no longer the domain of the outsider and the cool, the musical landscape has changed much in recent years and this is as mainstream as you would expect from a Girls Aloud single.

It's a good catchy song, it's got a middle section where it drops out allowing the guitar sound to get murkier and roam around and the end of the track charges along to a pleasing conclusion. The Americans do this type of rock so well and they don't seem to have the same hang-ups that the British do in making commercial sounding music.

Get over it and if you like your rock, get listening to this song.
