Grey brilliance

It is rarely the case that a song can cause a feeling of real mystery, but this single does exactly that. What does Sound Team sound like? What genre does this release fit into? Is it happy or sad? Are the vocals relaxed or really heartfelt? They have no place, almost no association and either the song is one big entrapment or there are no catches at all and it's smooth and forgettable. Brilliant!

Something about it – the rhythm of the warm bass, the gentle drum mix and mellow guitar sounds – hints a little of a traditional 80s pop song. As each section glides on by, one more thing enters the performance, until the first chorus breaks the tranquillity with a horde of overdubs, tambourines, strange string sounds, etc. There is something so distinctly sad, and yet it is summery. Like a beach in black and white.

No matter what they sound like as a whole, this one song, when it stands on its own, is nondescript but not boring, original but not genius. It will sit on the fence until its bottom aches, but you'll love it and you won't know why.
