Foxy Urban Pop

It takes a feisty woman to produce an album with such a self assured title as 'Slappers" and Dani Siciliano is indeed a versatile young woman whose passion and style makes each song, even on a recording, feel like a performance.

Energy oozes from the thick, hip hop rhythm of opener 'Slapper', which gets toes a-tapping all round. 'They Can Wait' is a seductive silky tune wrapped in teasing whispers and a tense rhythm that catches even the most reserved off guard.

Dani plays soul diva on the playful, 'Why Can't I Make You High?' before it breaks into a fast paced swinging rhythm, while 'Frozen' is an anxious pop song that builds to a splendid crescendo.

'Too Young' creaks with electro sighs and a precious chorus of pearl drop sounds accompanies Dani's vivacious double tracked vocals on this stylish and experimental song, which is a whimsical highlight. It's a gem amongst the more traditional pop songs.

Tentative fluttering vocals take Miss Siciliano over in the emotional flood of slow groover 'Think Twice', 'Big Tune' melts warm brass into a fluctuating mix of soaring and mellow. 'Be My Producer' is a foxy, Peaches-esque closer that reminds us that Dani Siciliano is one talented and racy lady.

'Slappers' is a creative take on the traditional pop album, adding all manner of testing rhythms and neat effects, however underneath it's still a sleek, pop compendium with an inventive twist. Music buffs could do worse than listen to Dani's songs for a new way to add a little spice to their pop princesses' works as 'Slappers' is the most agreeable album of its kind that I've heard in an age and there are some songs that even the most alternative listener couldn't fail to appreciate.
