Dreamy Electro Musing

Kid:Coda's album is so effortlessly cool that it should be prescribed as a cure for anxiety, balmy beats and waves of cool synths float through your mind like a Caribbean tide. 'Wait 'Til The Morning' sounds like the perfect laidback start to any day with twinkling chords and euphoric synths to wash away any blues. 'Reap My Regret' follows a similar scheme, except with an added harmonica wailing away in the background. The electro cool of 'Keep The Belief' soon gets you back on your feet with its vitriolic sneering guitars and disco vocals, while its Nintendo partner in crime, 'The Hunger' merges a ravenous bass line with the twee blips from computer games to whip up a groovy number. Closer 'Searching' is a breezy and unexpected number sticking largely to the realms of traditional instrumentation and picked strings with a distinctly folk air about it and a reliance on vocals that is slightly odd for this album.

There's plenty of variation in the album; even in each individual tune as the earthy, folk vocals of 'Dudsie:149' mix with the funky bassline. Unfortunately the tunes as stretch way beyond the usual 3 minute mark, meaning you become rather distracted and so chilled out that you forget to mark the passing of one track with a glimpse at the tracklist to see what's next. Kid: Coda have an interesting and unusual blend of styles and their tunes are definitely something that one could kick back and relax to after a day of work.
