Unconvincing.

When one discovers that two bands are sharing their first offical release on a double A-sided single it is difficult to shed the assumption that this partnership isn't due to the fact that neither band is good enough to warrant their own release. On this particular CD we are introduced to Screaming Mimi (who have already produced several self- released EPs) and RepoMen; both of whom are based in Sheffield and have a lot of gig experience under their belts.

Screaming Mimi's track, 'Who Is Louise?' is a fast-paced offering described by their press release as "country punk" although it isn't easy to hear much country or punk influence on the track. The track features some nice guitar work and pleasant vocals that remind one of Lousie Wener or Aimee Echo; but sadly the song isn't as memorable or original as it would so clearly love to be. 'Who Is Louise?' is not without promise however - perhaps if Screaming Mimi are given their own release in the future they will be better able to showcase their talents.

Second track 'Trophy' by RepoMen is a rather formulaic indie affair. It has a good melody and some interesting instrumental sections and effects; but employs the overused quiet/loud song structure and formulaic song structure. The band themselves don't sound particularly enthusiastic when performing the song, which doesn't help to convince the listener that success is just around the corner for the RepoMen. The group have a more professional sound than one might expect given that this is their first release, but 'Trophy' remains rather a bland song and unlikely to win them many new fans.
