Spider Simpson's first single

Starting off a little twangy with a little distorted guitar, the piano begins to break in along with the vocals. Spider Simpson is in effect. Heavy Metal Machine certainly has the rhythm, guts and visceral edge, worthy of the title. The vocals don't seem to match though, sadly, being much too soft and reminiscent of The Killers in style. The whole thing sounds much more Velvet Revolver-like though, thank goodness. Their band page claims that they are an alternative rock band in an American Style, which certainly seems to fit the bill. If i was to pitch Spider Simpson at any other bands, they seem in the same vein as Hundred Reasons. The sound isn't quite as heavy vocally, but the drumming and guitar work especially, have the right kind of rhythm to make you move your whole body.

"Im So Tired" certainly isn't, if the drumming is anything to go by. The pace has definitely picked up. The vocals have changed a little, with the addition of a megaphone and some extra backing. The similarity to the Velvet Revolver sound seems much more pronounced in this track though they seem to lack the gutsy edge. No real wonder though. Halfway through, we get some nice distortion over the top of a solid bass line. The whole song sits together well, though something does seem to be lacking. It's hard to put my finger on, but the vocals seem somewhat timid in pitch. I think the lead singer needs to eat more gravel. Still, the whole single is solid and it'll be fun to see how they perform live.
