Harmless

If you're a fan of middle of the road accessable mainstream soulful pop then this new single from American singer John Legend might be up your alley.

John Legend is best known in the UK for his hit single 'Ordinary People' and 'PDA (Public Display of Affection)' is sticking to the same formula as his 2005 smash. Unsurprisingly given the title, this is a track about showing off being with somebody...just in time for Valentines Day and all that.

The piano intro suggests we might be in store for one of those horrible romantic power ballads this kind of artist has a habit of bringing out. However once the drums kick in and the song gets going it's actually a perfectly pleasant track. The tune is nothing special and overall this song is thoroughly unremarkable but many radio formats cry out for exactly that and there's no doubting John Legend's appeal to a certain demographic. You also need to have a reasonable fan base behind you if you play London's Royal Albert Hall.

If you're one of our metal or punk loving readers then this track won't even register on your radar. If Keane or the Feeling is more what gets your boat gently afloating then 'PDA' is worth a listen.

This single is out this week. His popularity and mass appeal in the US has once again been recognized with another Grammy Award at the weekend.
