Air Traffic - Charlotte

Sometimes, a new band is trumpeted to such a repetitively, mind-numbingly boring extent that you are sick of them before they even launch their first single. At other times however, a new band sneaks up on you unawares, plugs in their guitars and turns their amp output to max, completely blowing you away while you're still not sure what the hell's going on. Or who these four weirdoes trespassing on your eardrums are. Air Traffic thankfully fit the second category.

For a band whose rehearsal time and jamming sessions were continually interrupted by feedback from the next-door airport's control tower (hence the name) this track is pretty slick. Sure, you may not be able to make out a lot of the lyrics in the chorus, but does that matter if the tune, guitars and sheer energy make you want to jump around anyway?

Charlotte is a big energetic bundle of fun akin to a small puppy that unexpectedly turns up in your living room. You didn't ask for it, you've got enough already, but the appeal is just too irresistible to kick out – unless it wees all over your kitchen floor. Let's just hope the album can live up to the single.
