All boxes ticked but still I want more

Having played alongside the likes of Blood Red Shoes and Dustins Barmitzva, The Black Flash now have their new single out for the world to enjoy.

The accompanying blurb suggests their sound is something along the lines of The Ramones, Test Icicles and Queens of the Stone Age, which is certainly a bold statement for them to live up to. From the moment the first instantly likable guitar rift of 'We Love Japan' kicks in it is clear to see where the Ramones comparison came from, however the vocals are harsher and at times more of a shriek than that legendary punk outfit ever served up, and the tune is nothing to get overly excited about either.

It would be interesting to see what the rest of Black Flash's setlist is like as I can't imagine this would be one of the stand out moments of any gig. Although there's nothing wrong with it, all punk boxes seem to be ticked, it is hard to fully appreciate what this band has to offer on the strength of one alright short and sharp blast.

This is an encouraging track but, as has been said many times before and will be said again, when a song falls short of what it is set up to be similar to, it's easy to go off and search through the CD collection for those that have been named checked. That said make sure you keep an eye out for Black Flash as bands such as these usually produce a live show worth crossing the road for.
