Rock Radio

If you should ever find yourself driving in America switch on the radio and you'll hear something like this "You're tuned to wkjrz rock radio 101.3 fm, later we'll be having a competition to win free pizza, but first here's 'The Showdown', rock it to the limit America!"

There will then follow exactly what you would expect, middle of the road American rock that won't offend anyone and can be played once an hour on commercial radio. That's exactly what this is. I almost expect the DJ to come in just before the end keeping me listening with that promise of pizza. The songs have a nice easy head nodding rock sound with a little blues mixed in here and there but they're pretty interchangable with only two songs really standing out.

The best song for me is the one that's the least like the rest of the album. 'It Drinks From Me' is that song, a bluesy back country slow tempo track about the downside of alcohol. The other goody is the title track 'Temptation Come My Way' a slow, slightly sleazy feeling song, with a guitar groove that just slides it along. Apart from that it's rock radio all the way.

It sounds so far like I don't like it, I don't dislike it, it's just that there's very little to get a hold of, the songs are simply structured and the whole thing requires no effort to listen to, so if you're driving along, your thoughts just drift off to something else. It's played well enough and singer David Bunton has a good enough voice but the material is just so completely inoffensive, radio rock basically, I can't think of a better description.

One final thing the press release (which is way over the top for what's on offer) quotes a member of the band thus, "We are about power, fire, pyro, oil, rocks and heavy" so if you've been on the lookout for a band that's about 'oil and rocks' then here they are. A geologist perhaps?

"That was 'The Showdown' on wkjrz rock radio 101.3 fm, coming up don't forget that chance to win free pizza, don't touch that dial, keep it locked to wkjrz"
