Finlands finest export? Possibly....time will tell.
'Kotipelto' is the solo project of Timo Kotipelto, former Finnish rockers Stratovarious' front man. Hailing from Finland, Timo recently released his third album 'Serenity', with this single 'Sleep Well' being it's the first single release from it.
'Sleep Well' is grandiose rock with almost Bruce Dickinson-like vocals, but it still manages to be accessible to all, and therefore could be perceived as radio friendly. With the current trend of almost operatic rock emerging from the Scandinavian region, 'Sleep Well' is nothing new, but it does fit this scene nicely. The crushing yet defined guitars are augmented by the subtle use of synths that expand the dimensions of the overall sound, creating the epic and grandiose aura. The guitar work in particular is to be admired, with the track ending with an excellent virtuoso solo.
Any fans of the current operatic-rock-with-a-tinge-of-metal boom including bands such as Nightwish and Lordi would find this material interesting, and I would recommend they give it a listen. For some it may be a little too theatrical, but in truth it at least merit's a listen.
