The spot the similarity game continues

Time for the latest chapter in the ever changing sound of the Scissor Sisters, and another chance to play the 'just who do they sound like this time' game.

So far this second album has seen them do very good 'Stars In Their Eyes' impressions of the Bee Gees and Elton John, and this latest single once again sees them in a familiar feel good party pop mood.

From the outset those with a certain knowledge of the early eighties will be thinking "that's Diana Ross 'Chain Reaction' that is". With the track's disco feel and Anna Matronic on vocals that have been layered to form harmonies, there are more than enough chances for words like Abba and Bananararma to pop into the head.

There's nothing wrong with the Scissor Sisters making the kind of music they do, it has its place and it's extremely popular. For me 'I Don't Feel Like Dancing' was one of last year's greatest pop songs. As part of the overall package this song fits in well, if you were to go to a Scissor Sisters gig this would have the dancefloor as full as any other, but as a stand alone single it's extremely unremarkable. To say it brings nothing new to the nostalgic, reminiscent of older classics market would seem a bit odd, but that's the best way to some it up. There's nothing wrong with making classic sounding pop music, but when the tune isn't all that great there's not much else to really excite.
