Comedy Death metal?

Hmm, strange one this. Let's see, the cover has a werewolf holding a severed head and emerging from a nuclear explosion in cartoon lurid colours and the album is called 'The resurrection of everything tough' somehow I don't think these guys are taking themselves too seriously. This suspicion is confirmed when you read the press release which tells a lovely story about the band members turning feral and howling at the moon, hey we've all done that right? It then goes off casting in stone the point that BTSS play rock n roll for fun and beer.

Vocally we're in death metal land with a deep growling (wolf?) voice but musically we're in metal/rock n roll land with riffs they may have stolen from Led Zep. The tone of the whole thing says we're just kidding folks(ho ho) but as you can't really tell what he's singing about any comedy lyrical moments are lost, you have to judge it on its musical merits and as long as you don't mind the cookie monster gargling cement vocals you're left with a fairly light weight metal offering.

As an ex-drummer turned bitter reviewer I'd just like to say that the drumming on this is OK but pretty basic and combined with the rock riffs sets a tone way down the road from the death metal vocals. I can't figure out who their target audience is, if they want to play 'rock n roll' have fun and drink beer then the singer has to go as he will alienate the very people that like that kind of stuff. If on the other hand they want to do the death metal stuff then they will have to take themselves more seriously or be ignored by the black clad faithful, I'm sure they're having a high old time now with their friends but to be accepted on a wider scale they need to take stock of their direction.

OK now that's out of the way let me just clear up why they sound like they do, this is a studio project of a few guys from 'The Red Chord' (?) they won't be playing any gigs, this is obviously a bonkers outlet for their 'hilarious' song writing abilities that they can't play anywhere else, they come from Boston in the good old US of A and erm... well that's it I've run out of things to say about the band and their album as it's interest factor wore off two paragraphs ago, don't buy it you'll only regret it later.
