Hybrid indie funkiness.
The Aliens includes two former members of The Beta Band, so as you might expect they are in essence a quirky indie Scottish trio. But on this single, the indie base is topped with layers of cheesy funk, a piano solo and swirling 60s style psychedelic guitars as well as irritatingly repetitive vocals which just seem to consist of the words "I am the robot man" on a loop like a stuck vinyl 7".
It might be slightly more original than a lot of the indie-disco offerings out there at the moment, but this strange pop/disco/funk/indie hybrid which sounds strangely like Sly and The Family Stone meets The Monkees is often uncomfortable to listen to and does nothing for any of the genres being mauled.
