Debut from indie hopefuls.

The name Scouting for Girls already seems familiar and yet their first single is only just hitting the shelves. 'It's Not About You' is, therefore the band's first attempt to staple their songs onto the minds of the indie listening public. And, it must be said; the single is not a massively striking one.

'It's Not About You' is a tolerable song to listen to but there is no real hook to bring the listener back for more. Its lyrics are quickly repetitive and the vocal style is also a little grating, like a more irritating Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly. The song is as breezy as its press release claims, but so are a thousand others, particularly many of those released at this time of year. More than anything the overriding sense when listening to this is that it is indie by numbers for those not heavily immersed in the genre. Bluntly, Scouting for Girls can probably build a legion of fans from the tween market who are yet to hear the amount of music needed to build high standards. To quote the song itself: "sometimes it's good and sometimes it's bad, I guess we got nothing to say".
