Debut single from indie-folk hopefuls.

Whenever I hear the word Rushmore my mind immediately conjures an image of the whole-heartedly excellent Wes Anderson film. Regardless of whether this was the inspiration for the band of the same name or not, they get a couple of points from me based on that alone.

A four piece that includes two Devon-born brothers as songwriters, Rushmore aim for a song writing style described as 'classic'. Their press release mentions heavyweight names like the Eagles and Neil Young, so it's fair to say the bar is being held pretty high. Well, for a debut single this is definitely competent, a pleasant and upbeat tune and soft vocals making the sound laidback and enjoyable. I certainly wouldn't rush to compare Rushmore to song writing greats like Neil Young just yet, but there's nothing obviously wrong here either.

As a single this is decent in value terms as it also offers two acoustic songs, if you like upbeat indie-folk that is pleasant more than it is awe inspiring then Rushmore are for you. Not as awesome as the film, but not an embarrassment to its name either.
