A Special Collaboration from two Indie Heroes.

A special collaboration from two very special musical icons that need no introduction. Having both carved out successful solo careers since separating from their respective bands, ex-Blur guitar maestro Coxon and former Jam front-man Weller join forces to co-write 'This Old Town'.

As you would expect, the duo have stuck to what they do best. The sound is therefore classic 90's indie rock; sharp yet expressive guitars create the characteristic light, trebly crunch tone, while Coxon covers lead vocal duties with Weller in support. There's no pretence here, no showmanship, just two legends doing what they do best; straight up, no nonsense indie rock, and loving every minute of it.

There is no doubt that the chorus is what draws the ear the most on this track, with some biting lyrics hidden beneath the chiming guitar. The verse consists of an interesting descending guitar melody that compliments Coxon's vocals rather well, while the simple drumbeat and bass-line keep things ticking over nicely. If I have one gripe with this track, it's that it's a little too monotonous for my liking. After a couple of listens it starts to lose its appeal rather quickly.

On the whole this effort is a great collaboration that old Blur and 90's indie rock fan's will no doubt really enjoy, just don't expect anything new or groundbreaking. A catchy song and a collaboration that certainly whets the appetite and should be developed further.
