Make Model - The Was

Whispered vocals ushered in on a beat used on '500 miles' by 'The Proclaimers' perhaps doesn't sound like a winning combination. But this guitar fused disco track from Glasgow based one's to watch 'Make Model' recovers.

All the key ingredients are here on 'The Was'; the obligatory backing vocal and strings which crescendo into a surprisingly forlorn looped chorus 'Comatose, stoned, softening the blow'. There's also a late surge from the trumpet which gives it a camp 90's 'Right Said Fred' feel but certainly gift wraps the track.

'The Was' has more than a hint of 'Dirty Vegas' on the vocal. But the end result is a single bursting with optimistic emotion more akin to the Flaming Lips. Undoubtedly their as yet untitled debut album in 2008 will take them to a wider audience.
