Syrup galore.

Australian-born Sia has been active in the music industry for over ten years although it is only now that many are hearing her name. After beginning her career with the acid jazz group Crisp in Oz but not achieving much in the way of commercial success Sia relocated to London and embarked on a solo career (finding time to work on a side project with Zero 7), releasing two albums - the jazzy 'Healing Is Difficult' and more downtempo 'Colour The Small One'. 'Day Too Soon' is taken from the forthcoming 'Some People Have REAL Problems' and despite the pessimistic album title it seems to indicate that Sia has taken another change of musical direction, this time towards the pure pop.

Sia's strongest card, as she is clearly well aware, is her richly textured voice. On 'Day Too Soon' it glides over pianos and percussion, capturing the love of your ears from the first note. Sadly, a track that begins as lush and multi-layered soon slips into the syrupy sweetness of top 10 pop - reminiscent of Mariah Carey or last year X Factor's winner Leona. Some may enjoy that kind of thing, but if you're used to more leftfield music 'Day Too Soon' is unlikely to be your cup of tea.
