A Thousand Suns

The debut Ep from A Thousand Suns comes a year after they first ganged together to form the band.

‘Destroy Create’ is a funny kind of record. At times it is a good listen, but other times sounds very muddled. Having said that, the sounds the album has created are very catchy, especially the guitar riffs on tracks such as ‘All I Wanted’ and ‘Weapons’ where I found myself tapping along to the music. The track ‘March Of The Pigs’ is dark at times, but gets sweeter halfway through, while more electric tracks like ‘Closure’ has sharp and constant beats. One track I found a little confusing to listen to was ‘The Despair’. It seemed muddled in its melody and vocals.

This was also the case for ‘All I Wanted’ where the haunting vocals on occasions sound strained. As the central harmonies are introduced, my ears felt pleasure, but then the track falls into the abyss due to its clash with the sounds. To be honest, the vocals of ‘Destroy Create’ are not able to fit in with the style of music that the band is producing at all. On ‘Weapons’, the vocals sound like they are suspended in mid air between edgy and subtle. They are unable to pull off intense and poppy, but do however end with “Bring this fight to you”, the roughest vocals on the Ep.

It would have been nice if the vocal ability and musical talent on this Ep had been able to coexist with each other on the same level. Unfortunately this was not the case, and the CD is quite jumbled.
