If dull is your thing then step this way.

In many ways, Turin Brakes were ahead of their time when they first came to our attention. Amid the new wave of sensitive indie that swept Britain around 2000, they stood our as songwriters rather than showmen, a welcome breath of fresh air among the other interesting stuff of that year, namely the darkness of Doves and the colour of Coldplay.

It is somewhat of a shame then that “Something In My Eye” sounds like something that belongs in the doldrums of bargain priced compilation albums. Its pleasantness does charm to begin with but, as the song grinds on it begins to irritate with its lack of invention and fire. The soft harmonies are appealing but eventually become a boring attempt to ice a bland and lifeless cake. In an age where strong production seeps into everything, no matter how raw, “Something In My Eye” sounds like it is reliant on hooks which frankly aren't there. Nice? Yes. Forgettable? Absolutely.
