Heroes, Hoods and Headphones

Have you ever listened to a track by a band or a musician and thought very highly of it only to be let down when you here that little bit more. That was exactly my feelings when I heard this release.

OneDayLife is a three piece pop punk band, with a hidden layer of rock buried within their sound. When it comes to their debut album ‘Heroes, Hoods and Headphones’, the band has taken it upon their own shoulders to write and produce all of the tracks you hear. It is this that could be accountable for the lack of diverse material on the album. But I must give the band credit. When choosing a beat, style and formula to follow, they have managed to choose a good one.

Each of the tracks has a guitar driven beat that is surrounded with pop melodies; the drums have an army style to them on occasions; there are hooks to grasp onto and catchy choruses that will have you tapping your fingers, toes and pen along to. Two tracks that do stand out for being a little different are ‘Your Foot And The Floor’ for its slightly intense rhythm and ‘This is How It Ends’ which in comparison is the complete opposite and is slightly more mellow with acoustic areas. The vocals, much like the music are definitely consistent. However, in ‘Warm Glow And White Lines’ the vocals areas shine a little brighter.

After listening to the first track I was excited to hear the rest. Unfortunately, it all sounded familiar; it had the same style and beats throughout each and every track. It seems like the lads have found something they are good at, but need a little more time to explore the experimental process and form an album of new and innovative tracks and includes some more diverse material. There is no point in reusing something that is great, as after a while it will begin to become lifeless and lose that effect it originally had on a listener. Don’t remake a movie; come up with something with a little more life. It applies to the flicks, and this album too.

I hold big hopes for OneDayLife, and hopefully the next things to come will have a little more life and a little more originality.
