Did someone mention...The Eagles?!

There's nothing quite like a nice surprise to please the reviewer of your new single. Dawn Landes' “Bodyguard” is a rather decent song with moody, soulful lyrics over simple production and menacing yet gentle bass and drums but its when you get into the chorus that it hits you • a banjo. And its not just any banjo, it is very almost the banjo from the theme to the BBC's production of Hitchhikers' Guide to the Galaxy.

It may only be a small thing, but it endears the song to the listener like meeting someone with the same birthday as you. It also aptly demonstrates the sheer invention and imagination of Dawn Landes (or, at least, her producer). Just when you thought that the singer/songwriter mainstream was filled with posh girls with barrow boy accents and trashy girls with southern American accents, along comes someone with faith in themselves and the confidence to think just that little bit out of the box. And for this alone, Bodyguard comes with high recommendation indeed.
