Pepe Deluxe

Pepe Deluxe maintains a fairly original approach to music-making. Combining a funky pumpy bassline with brass, a touch of soul, a pinch of pop-culture and a shot of true magical drumming. There’s something so vibrant, fresh and wonderful about this act. The lyrics are comical, the vocal texture is rich, the musicianship is rich and the sound is decorated with quirky, yet fitting, electro bumf. “Forgotten Knights” is an incredibly danceable and especially enjoyable listen. It’s comes as somewhat a surprise to the listener because, on face-value, no-one would expect to find such a remarkable track.

All that said, it’s arguable that all Pepe Deluxe are doing is taking a fairly matured pop trait, recycling it and sugarcoating it with their own modern twist. No matter what they are doing, it’s undeniable that this is something wonderful. This is like Gnarls Barkley meets Mark Ronson only ten time’s better.
