New Adventures - How I got my Devil Back (Part One)

There is nothing is worse than when a band mistakenly believes that they can do no wrong. Usually symptomatic of a long career of large record sales and constant inclusion on some bloody top 100 list in some bloody monthly music magazine, it is most strange that New Adventures seem to have managed such smugness on their first single.

There is a 'Nice' bit of strings, 'Nice' dabble of piano and a 'Nice' circular chord structure on which to lay such pleasantries. Unfortunately the dirge of overly agreeable Chris Martin brand soppiness is too much for the stomach to take and all that niceity quickly turns sour and all is lost in the ensuing wretch. The wincing falsettos and artifically attempted strain of emotion in the vocals are certainly the worst thing about this record and would make Martin Rossiter of Gene proud in their over earnest drudgery.

Put it this way, I won't be checking out Part 2
