The Wolfmen - Needle In The Camel's Eye

This is the fifth single from London based experimental rockers The Wolfmen and rather surprisingly perhaps it’s a cover of Brian Eno masterpiece ‘Needle In The Camel’s Eye’.

Why a band ever chooses to release a cover song as a single is anyone’s guess, but in this case The Wolfmen tackle things appallingly. It happily ranks alongside the horrifically self gratifying Jesse Malin efforts of ‘On Your Sleeve’ and brutally incoherent Simple Minds collection ‘Neon Golden’ as uniformly uninspired cover work. If you’ve heard the original you’ll find it lazy lazy stuff, and that’s a real shame because judging from the groups previous work they are capable of a lot more than faux-arty, stripped back, magpie efforts like this. It might be technically tight but artistically it’s atrocious.

Those of you who haven’t heard the original may take something away from it, those who have will be reduced to groaning and pining for the days when bands as experienced as these guys could knock up something better themselves over a breakfast of cornflakes and Earl Grey.
