Editors' debut single is a ray of sunshine

“Bullets” is an intelligent song with perky guitar and charismatic vocals, something of an oddity in the world of gloomy emo and drug-addled rock. It’s a strong debut single, which is already getting the band radio play and prestigious live slots. It’s a wonderfully bright song with chirpy guitar chiming, and at times even blaring, beneath the powerful, deep vocals of singer Tom Smith. It’s a fresh and vibrant track that will be caught in your head for days.

B-side “You Are Fading” is something of an oddity. It starts with the bleak mantra “I’ll lose this, I always have, I always let you down” but develops into a driven and pensive tune with these words muttered beneath rhythmic beat and aching vocals.

The last track, “Dust In The Sunlight” unfortunately comes across as real b-side material when compared to the passion and power of “Bullets”. It’s a mellow number, bordering almost on dreary, it’s allegedly the closest the band have come to writing a love song, but it lacks the passion or pick up of any love song.

“Bullets” is a smart and buoyant single with masses of potential, however the single is pulled down by the lethargy of the B-sides.
