Darker Corners EP

Along with glaring influences such as Massive Attack and Portishead, London based Moonshot are another offering from the trip hop scene.

During lead track Do You Dream Of Me? a brooding, trippy standard has been set. Unlike their influences the beats lack in prominence when they could become the focus of both opening tracks leaving a constant meditative resonance. Bizarrely you can imagine monks chanting the simple chorus as a mantra over and over again.

What becomes clear is that Moonshot specialise in a supremely complex, enveloping sound consisting of intricate drum loops and incessant atmospheric melodies caught lurking in the background. Without much variation, second track Clinically Sane takes on a more disturbing approach with the melodies bringing an underhand menace.

Blended intricately into the mix are distanced vocals, sounding as if delivered from another room which gives an ethereal, disconcertingly intense effect, coupled with patient undertones on Urbane likens the track to Joy Division and Ian Curtis. Simply relax, press play and quite easily you can immerse and lose yourself in the heady dreamlike concoction Moonshot produce.
