Sugar rush for the soundtrack to summer

I have to admit that I don’t always get the appeal of ‘kooky’ female singer-songwriters. Especially ones with ‘kooky’ names. One Little Plane, by any other name, is the already-successful Kathryn Bint. She’s originally from Chicago, but the relocation to London really shows in the hippie, free-flowing rhythm of ‘Sunshine Kid’. It’s a relentlessly optimistic tune, which is an admirable quality. Especially as a summer release, it does capture a certain summery feel. The only downside is that it’s so sweet diabetics should avoid it at all costs. But if a relaxed hippie version of Lily Allen, Kate Nash, or Feist is your thing, go for it.

B-side ‘Until’ is another floaty acoustic track, but not as pop beat driven as ‘Sunshine Kid’. If you like quirky percussion instruments, this is the track for you: rainsticks, tiny cymbals, and those wooden things that sound like frog croaks are in abundance. It’s all very laid back, chilled, and sugary sweet.
